Worship

Worship Service – Sundays at 11:00 AM

Worship for us is a friendly gathering. We meet to sing, pray, and hear the Word. We enjoy relevant, contemporary sermons to help in Christian living.  You’re welcome to come just as you are.

Together, we refresh our relationship with Christ and each other. With that comes a sense of personal growth, belonging, fulfillment, renewed purpose, and spiritual joy.  Our worship also sends us forth into the world to serve God and work for justice for all of God’s beloved people.

Children of all ages are welcome, and Pastor Cody offers a “Children’s Moment” with a message geared toward our youngest disciples.  Following the Children’s Moment, children age 3-12 are invited to go down the hall for Sunday School with our teachers, Gail Huggins and Sharon McDaniel.

Music

Music plays an important part in our life here at CUMC.   Our congregation is blessed with many gifted musicians:

Tommy Johnson is our Accompanist.  Tommy is a gifted classical musician who lives in Anacortes.

Pam Verner plays both electronic keyboard and piano, and also serves to coordinate our music ministry generally.

And of course, Jerry Sommerseth, our Accompanist Emeritus who has shared his musical gifts with us for nearly 60 years.  Jerry is a well-known classical pianist in the Skagit musical community. He steps in when needed and almost always plays some impromptu postlude to uplift our hearts as we go our separate ways.

We love it when Gail offers a piece of special music on her violin, Tom his guitar, Clarence a praise song on piano, or one of our many gifted singers share a solo or ensemble piece!

It must be said that our congregation loves to sing.

And, while we usually take them for granted, we do appreciate our two hymnbooks— one with beloved historical hymns and lyrics, and the other with more contemporary rhythms and poetry..

Fellowship

Immediately following worship, our congregation gathers in the Fellowship Hall for conversations and light refreshments. This is an important time for getting to know our guests and new friends, renewing friendships, and making everyone feel welcomed.
